Social Intelligence is a facet of human intelligence that has been argued to be indispensable and perhaps the most important for success in life. A widely accepted prediction is that next-generation computing needs to include the essence of social intelligence – the ability to recognize and generate social signals and social behaviours – in order to become more effective and more efficient. Due to this vision of the future, automated analysis and synthesis of social signals and social behaviours, including social interactions (like turn taking and backchanelling), social attitude (like alliance), and social relations/ roles, have attracted increasing attention.

[Browse content]	Symposium romand de Physiothérapie Le 17ème Symposium Romand de Physiothérapie, organisé par Mains Libres, s’est tenu au Palais de Beaulieu, à Lausanne, les 5 et 6 novembre 2010. Ce symposium s’adresse aux physiothérapeutes/kinésithérapeutes, ostéopathes mais aussi à tous les professionnels de la santé. Le comité de Mains Libres – composé de Joëlle Cuenod-Curdy, Gaëlle Jungo, Pierre Besson, Yves Larequi et Jean Touati – organise depuis 16 ans déjà, des symposiums de physiothérapie, et depuis quelques années des symposiums d’ostéopathie. Les conférences plénières de vendredi ont été capturées par Klewel et sont retransmises depuis le samedi 6 pour les ateliers pratiques. En effet, le symposium ne se limitait pas à 9 conférences et une présentation de mémoire de fin d’études, les organisateurs avaient aussi prévu 10 communications libres et pas moins de 40 ateliers (4 séries de 10 ateliers). Les participants ont aussi eu le loisir d’exercer leurs aptitudes proprioceptives dans un espace ludique ou encore de gagner de nombreux prix lors du tirage au sort en fin de symposium.

Gillet Vice-président de l’Ecole depuis quatre mois, Philippe Gillet est aussi un professeur et un chercheur reconnu dans le domaine de la physique des matériaux et de la matière extraterrestre. Il a donné sa leçon inaugurale lundi le 4 octobre. Raconter l’histoire de la formation de la Terre un peu à la manière d’une enquête policière, en suivant différentes preuves et arguments scientifiques. Tel est le ton que Philippe Gillet avait choisi pour sa leçon inaugurale. Intitulée «naissance et évolution d’une planète», elle a eu lieu hier au Polydôme. Ce Français de 52 ans, débarqué à l’EPFL il y a quatre mois, n’est pas seulement le nouveau vice-président de l’Ecole. Il est aussi un professeur et un chercheur réputé, spécialisé dans la géologie et couvrant des domaines variés, tels que la physique des minéraux à hautes pressions, les interactions entre bactéries et minéraux ou l’étude des météorites et poussières planétaires.
