The WBCSD (World Business Council for Sustainable Development) is a CEO-led organization of forward-thinking companies that galvanizes the global business community to create a sustainable future for business, society and the environment. They had their last meeting in Montreux, webcasted by Klewel, in preparation of the Rio+20 meeting in a month. A new president was elected at their November 2011 meeting, Peter Bakker, former CEO of the transport giant TNT. He then stepped down and left the TNT group per June 1, 2011. He was the UN’s WFP Ambassador Against Hunger in 2011. He is also the Chairman of War Child Netherlands.

Together with its members, the council applies its respected thought leadership and effective advocacy to generate constructive solutions and take shared action.

The WBCSD was founded on the eve of the 1992 Rio Earth Summit to ensure the business voice was heard at the forum. It was created by Swiss entrepreneur and philanthropist Stephan Schmidheiny who believed that business had an inescapable role to play in sustainable development: at the same time as making significant contributions to the creation of a sustainable society, it is in the interest of business, and its bottom line, to do so.

The WBCSD will act as the representative of progressive business at Rio+20, highlighting the advances it has made towards sustainability. By engaging with key stakeholders the WBCSD will explore the roles and responsibilities of business and others in moving towards a sustainable world.

One of our clients, the Earth Focus Foundation organized the projection of the film The Plan and participated to the Massive Change Network Seminar. Klewel was mandated to webcast and manage the video conferencing in communication with Toronto, Sidney and eight other locations.

Earth Focus Foundation presented THE PLAN written and directed by David Osterberg and Michael Stenberg of Biospheric Pictures AB (2010, 58′, Sweden) followed immediately by live discussion with Bruce Mau and Bisi Williams, and director David Osterberg. After the screening of THE PLAN, Bruce Mau lead a discussion exploring these questions:
1. How can we get the power of design into the hands of the 99% who have not had access to higher education?
2. How do we break through the noise, and make the best of human culture the most visible?
3. What can we do to accelerate the best (and stop the rest)?

February 18th, 2011 No comments
