History, values and team
Klewel is a spin-off of the Idiap Research Institute which is affiliated with EPFL Swiss Federal Institute of Technology.
The term "Klewel" comes from the breton language: this is a contraction of two terms "Klevet" and "Gwelet" which respectively mean to "listen" and to "see".

Maël GuillemotMain founder and CEOMael Guillemot holds a European Master of Science from the University of Rennes (France), including six months at the University of Barcelona and one year in the UK. He is laureate of the Swiss venture leaders 2008 and holds the "Passeport Bretagne pour Entreprendre". After 6 years of R&D experience at the Idiap Research Institute in the area of multimedia information management, he is the founder of Klewel

Maxime MonodChief Technology Officer (CTO)Maxime Monod holds a PhD from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL, Distributed Programming Laboratory - LPD, School of Computer & Communication Sciences - I&C) on the topic of "Live Streaming with Gossip". Maxime is the laureate of the Best Paper Award at the 13th International Conference On Principles Of Distributed Systems (OPODIS'09). During his M.Sc. from EPFL, he did a six-month project at the McGill University, Canada. Maxime is responsible of Klewel portal's back-end server architecture.

Vincent BozzoSoftware ArchitectVincent Bozzo holds a Master of Science MSc from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL), Lausanne. He did his 6 month EPFL Master Thesis at Klewel, designing and implementing an Adobe Flash tool for browsing and searching trough audio-visually captured conferences. He is now fully employed as "Software Architect" and works on the capture station software, the processing servers, the website and the Flash conference player.

Jean De AraujoPartnerAn experienced, positive minded and entrepreneurial executive with more than 25 years of extensive international experience in the trading related industries and seven years as CEO of a Congress and Exhibition centre in Lausanne/Switzerland. Having worked and lived overseas, he benefits from a solid business experience in South America, Africa and India, and is fluent in several languages. He proved to adapt quickly to new situations and working environments. A true team builder and team player with an extroverted personality and a direct manner. Performance oriented, he has a hands on approach towards the conduct of business.

Alessandro VinciarelliCo-founder, information retrieval expertAlessandro Vinciarelli holds a Ph.D. from the University of Bern (Switzerland), he is an expert in multimodal information retrieval. His main research interests focus on Sociometric Analysis of Media and Social Network Analysis. He participated in the 2001 and 2002 in summer internship programs of IBM Research in NewYork. He is the laureate of the 2002 Idiap best PhD student Award.

Jean-Marc OdobezCo-founder, computer vision expertJean-Marc Odobez holds a Ph.D. from the University of Rennes1 (INRIA, France). The thesis work was on robust motion estimation and analysis in video (he holds 2 software patents on the topic). He performed a postdoctoral year at University of Pennsylvania (UPenn), Philadelphia, USA, on video servoing, and then became assistant professor from 1996 to 2001 at the Université du Maine (le Mans, France). He joined Idiap in 2001. His main research interests are directed along developing statistical models and machine learning algorithms for: human tracking and activity analysis; image and scene representation modeling; sequence analysis and multimedia contents analysis.
